Muscleape's testosterone-support range covers TestMax (tribulus, ashwagandha, fenugreek and zinc), Himalayan shilajit resin and Shilajit Gold. These are dietary supplements for adult men, not medicines, and they are not a substitute for sleep, training, adequate calories or medical treatment for low testosterone. Below is a straight account of what the clinical evidence does and does not support, so you can decide for yourself. What does the evidence actually say?

Honest summary, ingredient by ingredient:

Ingredient What trials suggest Strength of evidence
Purified shilajit A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 96 men aged 45–55 taking 250 mg twice daily for 90 days found significant increases in total and free testosterone versus placebo (Pandit et al., Andrologia, 2016) Promising but limited — largely one primary trial
Ashwagandha Reasonable randomised evidence for reduced perceived stress and cortisol; some trials report modest testosterone increases, mostly in stressed or older men Moderate for stress, mixed for testosterone
Zinc Corrects testosterone suppression caused by deficiency. No clear benefit if you are not deficient Good, but only for deficiency
Fenugreek Some trials report improved libido and body composition; testosterone findings are inconsistent Mixed
Tribulus terrestris Clinical trials have generally not found that tribulus raises testosterone in healthy men, despite its popularity Weak for testosterone

The realistic expectation from this category is support for energy, stress and general wellbeing, with a modest testosterone effect at best and mainly in men who are older, stressed or deficient. If you are a healthy young man with normal testosterone, expect little.

Why purification matters for shilajit

This is the single most important thing to check before buying any shilajit, from anyone. Raw shilajit is scraped from rock crevices and in unpurified form can carry heavy metals, mycotoxins and free radicals. Purification is a safety issue, not a marketing one.

Before you buy shilajit — ours or anyone else's — look for a stated fulvic acid percentage (concentrated purified extracts typically sit in the 50–70% range), a documented purification process, and third-party heavy-metal testing. A product that states none of these gives you no basis for comparison.

Who should not use these

  • Anyone under 18.
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Anyone on medication for a hormonal, thyroid, cardiac or psychiatric condition, without speaking to their doctor first — ashwagandha in particular interacts with thyroid and sedative medication.
  • Anyone with a diagnosed hormone-sensitive condition.
  • Athletes in tested sport should check current federation and WADA guidance for any supplement they take, and prefer products with third-party testing.

This is general information about supplement ingredients, not medical advice. If you have symptoms of low testosterone — persistent fatigue, low libido, mood changes — get a blood test and see a doctor rather than self-treating with supplements.

Frequently asked questions

Does shilajit actually increase testosterone?

There is one good randomised trial supporting it: 96 men aged 45–55 taking 250 mg of purified shilajit twice daily for 90 days showed significant increases in total and free testosterone versus placebo. That is genuine evidence, but it is largely a single study, and results in younger men with normal levels may differ.

Does tribulus terrestris raise testosterone?

Clinical trials have generally not found that it does in healthy men. It remains a very common ingredient in testosterone-support formulas, but the testosterone evidence for it is weak.

How long before you notice anything?

The trials that show effects generally run 8–12 weeks. Anything promising results in days is not describing how these ingredients work.

Is shilajit safe?

Purified, third-party-tested shilajit at typical doses of 250–500 mg daily is generally well tolerated in the available research. Unpurified shilajit is the real risk, because it can carry heavy metals and mycotoxins. Only buy shilajit with a documented purification process and heavy-metal testing.
